If you’re planning a new addition to your home in Tucson with an existing septic system, then you may want to check with Pima County to see if your existing tank size can handle the new water fixture units. A simple calculation can determine where you sit currently.
The surgeon can diagnose your situation and give you the best remedy, decisions about concrete tanks Vs. HDPE tanks.
For a septic tank replacement, a permit will be issued before the work can begin. A plan must be submitted for review and approved, then work can start.
A permit is NOT required for a septic tank lid replacement. Lids get replaced upon condition as inspected and up to our own judgement. It’s obvious when the lids need to be replaced, because it becomes a structural issue and the integrity is compromised.
Tank lids never escape erosion, and you can fall into them if unchecked for periods of time.
The problem is sulfide gasses collect in the leach field and travel backward and enter the tank from the outlet side, completely eroding the concrete and anything that is above the operating water level.
So outlet baffles get destroyed and start letting solids escape into the field, which usually requires a leach line repair if neglected long enough.
Also a septic tank lid replacement which can be covered up with no inspection.
